KETO LAZY FROZEN-YOGURT BERRY PIE (HEART HEALTHY)
Keto Frozen-Yogurt Berry Pie! Need I say more? Yummy!
You can make this frozen dessert using Labneh – a Mediterranean cheese made from strained plain (no sugar added) yogurt or from no-sugar-added Greek yogurt. I like making this dessert from both, depending on what is available in my refrigerator. Labneh creates a dense tasting experience because of the cheese being dense.
WHAT IS THE NUTRITIONAL VALUE AND HEALTH BENEFITS OF KETO FROZEN-YOGURT BERRY PIE?
Greek yogurt is a fantastic source of calcium, potassium, protein, zinc, and vitamins B6 and B12. What distinguishes Greek yogurt has a thicker, creamier texture because the liquid whey is strained out. This is also the process used to make Labneh (yogurt cheese).
This pie is also filled with Keto -friendly fresh berries — raspberries, blackberries, and blueberries. All these fruits are considered low glycemic.
Raspberries give more than half of your RDI for vitamin C, a water-soluble nutrient essential for immune function and iron absorption. They also have small amounts of vitamin A, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin B6, calcium and zinc (1). Add to this that raspberries are also a good source of fiber and vitamin C.
Blackberries contain high levels of antioxidants, such as anthocyanin. Antioxidants help fight against the adverse impact of free radicals in your body. Free radicals can damage cells thereby speeding up the aging process and contributing to other health conditions, such as cancer and heart disease.
Blueberries can help heart health, bone strength, skin health, blood pressure, diabetes management, cancer prevention, and mental health. One cup of blueberries provides 24% of your recommended daily allowance of vitamin C.
WHAT NON-ALC WINE HARMONIZES WITH KETO FROZEN-YOGURT BERRY PIE?
Keto Frozen-Yogurt Berry Pie is sweet tasting. Sweetness is the primary taste sensation in this berry pie. Choosing a sweet non-alcoholic wine to match is not an option. Instead, here are a couple of options. Drink whatever you like and don’t worry about the pairing. Or, choose a dry non alcoholic rose and add a pinch of monk fruit sweetener to the glass. The non-alc wine’s sweetness will harmonize with the subtle sweetness in the dish, bringing the partners into balance. Or make the dish less sweet by adding fresh lime juice to the recipe. The tanginess from the lime juice will complement the acidity in a crispy, dry NA white such as brut sparkling wine, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, or Pinot Grigio.
Zero Alcohol Wine Tips:
ALCOHOL AND KETOSIS:
To support your Keto diet or low-carb lifestyle, opt for quality, non-alcoholic wines that are low-carb and low in sugar. Additionally, alcohol does not align with a keto diet or low-carb lifestyle. Moreover, your liver processes alcohol before nutrients, pausing ketone creation and slowing the ketosis process. Furthermore, your body will metabolize alcohol as fuel before utilizing food, which can decelerate fat burning and may lead to the storage of carbs, fat, and protein as excess body fat. Moreover, alcohol consumption stimulates the appetite, potentially causing overeating.
ALCOHOL AND HEALTH:
Did you know that when you consume alcohol, your liver has to work extra hard to break it down? This can result in damage to your liver. Furthermore, it can elevate your risk of health issues such as inflammation and cancer, particularly with heavy consumption. Additionally, alcohol can disrupt your blood sugar levels, leaving you feeling dehydrated and disrupting your body’s normal functions.
NON-ALCOHOLIC WINE AND HEALTH BENEFITS:
Non-alcoholic wines with minimal carbs and sugar are advantageous for your health. They not only aid in weight management, blood sugar control, and hydration but also contain essential nutrients and antioxidants from grapes that can decrease your risk of health conditions like heart disease. Consequently, since they lack alcohol, they’re ideal for socializing without any adverse effects, promoting feelings of happiness and reduced stress.

For this recipe you’ll need:
- No-sugar-added Greek yogurt or Labneh (yogurt cheese)

HOW DO YOU PREPARE KETO FROZEN-YOGURT BERRY PIE?
To prepare Keto Frozen-Yogurt Berry Pie, start with either no-sugar-added Greek yogurt or Labneh (yogurt cheese). Pour the Labneh or yogurt onto a 9” pizza tray lined with parchment. Spread out the Labneh or yogurt to the edges, making sure it’s even. Add all the berries, seeds and nuts you like. If you don’t want chocolate, drizzle in sugar-free maple syrup.
Here is the fun part. You can add your sugar-free chocolate drizzle before or after freezing, depending on your taste buds.
To make things easy I add one of my already prepared and favorite drizzles called O’Sesame Keto Chocolate Spread. This product is made from black sesame seeds but tastes so much like chocolate.
If you prefer to add nuts and seeds to your pie rather than fruit, drizzle with peanut or almond butter. I LOVE the Fatso Salted Caramel Peanut Butter. OMG it’s so rich and delicious.
If you make your dessert with nuts and seeds drizzle with O’Sesame AND Fatso Salted Caramel Peanut Butter. The combinations are endless!
If using yogurt to make this dessert, choose a 750 g tub of your favorite no-sugar-added Greek yogurt. Add 1 tablespoon Stevia and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract. I use a pint each of raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries.
